3DAR makes Augmented Reality easy for mobile developers

Location based augmented reality allows smartphone users to see and interact with geodata such as the locations of nearby points of interest and landmarks by overlaying visual markers on top of a live camera view. While some existing iPhone apps are capable of displaying map features in AR, it has traditionally been a difficult and time consuming feature to build into an application.

3DAR is a toolkit for rapid development of mobile location based augmented reality. Users can look through a “magic window” into a world augmented with graphical elements such as custom markers, 3D objects, and panoramic images. Developers are able to focus on creative customization while 3DAR distills the essential geodata rendering problem into an easy to use programming interface.

Developers can download a free version of the SDK from www.3dar.us and will also find documentation and a 5 minute tutorial video that demonstrates the ease with which existing mapping applications can be enhanced with AR features.

Licensing

3DAR is integrated into an iOS application by linking with a static library which is available for download at no cost. 3DAR apps that include our branding can be freely distributed in the App Store.

Free SDK

The 3DAR SDK is freely available for use in any iOS app provided that the following terms are honored.

• Our 3DAR logo must be visible on the augmented reality view.
• The app must include the text “Augmented reality powered by 3DAR from Spot Metrix” on at least one view.

White Label Licensing

The cost to distribute a 3DAR app without our branding is $5,000 per application.
